As the second and final film in the reboot of the Amazing Spider Man franchise, The Amazing Spider Man 2 premiered as superhero film that features the same Peter Parker and his alter ego Spider-Man as portrayed by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as the second lead and Parker’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy. The two lead actors reprised their roles from the first instalment of the series.
Despite being the eight highest grossing film of 2014 and being considered a box office hit, Amazing Spider Man 2 received mixed reviews from critics and negative reaction from the audience unlike the first film. But all aside the negative to average reaction, the film proceeded to gain nominations in Saturn Awards and Teen Choice Awards.
The film focuses in the events that followed Peter Parker’s High School Graduation, where his then present girlfriend Gwen Stacy gave a Valedictorian address while Peter Parker continues to fight criminals in his Spiderman alter-ego. After being out of school, Parker and his best friend Harry Osborn faces predicaments regarding their future: Parker with his future and plans to continue leading a secret double life as Spiderman and Peter Parker; and Harry Osborn in dealing with the death of his father and running the OsCorp industries.
Even greater tensions arise as new villains were introduced, and Peter Parker struggles to keep his personal life intact. His relationship with Gwen Stacy is not as strong as before, and when he discovers the evil power tied to his best friend’s newly developed weapon, he knows that saving the world and battling crimes costs an even higher sacrifice than he could ever imagine.
