Watch The Theory of Everything online and explore the memoir of Jane Wilde Hawking which also discusses her relationship with former husband and renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.
It all started in 1963 when the two started a relationship as they were both students then in Cambridge University. While Stephen was working hard on his research about black holes, his muscles started failing and leads him to discovering that he has an ailment called the motor neurone disease. Despite his condition, Jane stayed by his side and they tied the knot and have a child.
Stephen’s thesis on the black hole behind the creation of the universe was a success but his condition worsened to the point that he has to use a wheelchair. They had their second child and Stephen continue to become famous in his line of work as a physicist. However, all these and more led to Jane not being able to finish her own thesis.
She decided to join the choir and met Jonathan a widower and who eventually became her children’s piano teacher. When Jane gave birth again, Stephen’s mother suspected that the child’s was Jonathan. This lead to Jane and Jonathan admitting their true feelings to one another. Jonathan kept his distance from Stephen’s family but it was the physicist who insisted that Jane needs him too much.
As Stephen’s condition continue to worsen, his accomplishments continue to grow too. He even got a computer that has a voice synthesizer which he used in writing the international bestseller A Brief History of Time.
The end of the film shows Jane and Jonathan being happily married while still remaining as close friends with Stephen.
