Watch Whiplash online and unravel the story of a young man named Andrew Neiman who dreams of becoming one of the best drum players of jazz music. He decided to go the famous Shaffer Conservatory found in New York where he was discovered one night in a music room by renowned conductor Terence Fletcher. The music icon is known to have an abusive reputation to his pupils which he also showed to Andrew by throwing a chair at him, slap him in the face and degrade him in front of everyone in class.
Andrew was promoted to the lead drummer slot when he was able to play “Whiplash†during a jazz competition from mere memory. When Fletcher recruits a new guy for the core drummer position, Andrew takes it to extreme levels of determination by practicing up to the point that his hands bleed. He even decided to break up with his girlfriend believing that the relationship could be a distraction.
In one of their classes, Fletcher mentioned his continuous grief over a student, Sean Casey who passed away due to a car crash. Fletcher decided to hold auditions for the core drummer spot for the song Caravan and grants the spot to Andrew.
During the day of the competition, Andrew’s rental car got hit by a speeding truck and arrived on stage with severe injuries. In the middle of his performance, Fletcher told Andrew that he’s done which made the latter attack his teacher and got kicked out from the school. It was later on revealed that Fletcher’s former student Sean Casey did not die from a car accident but instead committed suicide after having joined the same class. Andrew served his testimony as support anonymously to Sean’s parents that caused Fletcher to be fired.
Several months after, the two met again in a bar. Fletcher invited Andrew in a jazz festival and told him minutes before the curtain rolls up that he knew that it was Andrew who testified against him. Fletcher tries to humiliate Andrew once again by leading the band play a piece Andrew did not rehearse. However, the young man came back on stage and interrupted Fletcher with the perfect drum intro performance of the Caravan, leaving Fletcher no other choice but to follow.
